First Anniversary Memorial Notice Update

17 October 2002 (Updated 2.30pm)

We would like to thank the more than 150 donors who so generously gave to the SIEVX First Anniversary Memorial Notice Appeal. Thanks to your generosity, more than $10,000 was raised (including pledges). Donations ranged between $10 and $1000 with the bulk of donations being around the $50 to $100 mark.

We hope this evidence of caring will offer some degree of comfort to the bereaved families.

We will be writing individually to some individual major donors (if we have their addresses) to thank them especially, over the next week. But this memorial notice was made possible only by the collective generosity of all our donors large and small.

In order to get a good page position we had to pay a loading on the cost of the notice. All up, the total amount paid to the Australian was $7,274.52

The excess of approximately $3000 will go to a fund for SIEVX survivors in Australia and their families. This fund will be managed by the ERC in conjunction with Keysar Trad, who has played such an important role with the SIEVX survivor families.

We trust that the text of our notice will meet your expectations as donors, and will help attract the best possible attendance to all the SIEVX events planned around the nation this weekend.

We will send the text ( embargoed till Saturday) to news media on friday, as a media release and it will appear on the front page of this site on Saturday.
