Re AusSar 2013-3877

[18 June 2013]

Dear Ms Hutton

I refer to your email of 13 June 2013 inquiring about a securite notice issued by AMSA’s Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC Australia).

The search for the vessel north-west of Cocos (Keeling) Islands concluded at last light on 12 June at which time the urgency broadcast was cancelled. AMSA coordinated a three-day search using two aircraft in an area more than 267,000 square nautical miles. The vessel was not relocated. Using drift modelling and drift information AMSA devised a search area covering 267,000 nautical miles but was unable to locate any sign of the “'Jayawe'”. Issuing the securite broadcast was undertaken to cover the option that the vessel may still have been underway to a destination unknown and requested vessels advise RCC Australia of any sightings. The coverage area of the broadcast was 1,538,600 square nautical miles and extended more than 700 nautical miles (1250 kilometres) from the vessels’ last known position.

I trust that this information is of assistance.
